In Memoriam: Dr. Barton A. Weitz died on June 29, 2018, after a decade-long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Barton A. Weitz was the Emeritus Executive Director, David F. Miller Center for Retailing Education and Research, University of Florida, Warrington College of Business.
He was past Chair of the American Marketing Association and formerly a member of the Board of Directors of the National Retail Federation and the National Retail Institute. The Center for Retailing Education and Research at the University of Florida, supported by 25 retailers, undertakes research on retailing issues and prepares students for retail management trainee positions.
Dr. Weitz was the co-author of Retailing Management, the most widely used textbook for teaching retail management courses in colleges and universities. The textbook, in its ninth edition, is published by McGraw-Hill. In 1998, Professor Weitz was the recipient of the American Marketing Association/Irwin Distinguished Marketing Educator Award for lifetime contribution to the marketing discipline.
